Use a small layer of charcoal and give the briquettes time enough to burn down to cooler coals. Try using 95% isopropyl alcohol or solid Sterno for lighter fluid. For more temperature control, get a covered grill. They are very cheap and are neater to store than an open fire pan.
Uniflame, $15, at WalMart.

foil dinners

pizza - put a paving stone on the grill & tent the grill with foil

precooked sausages - boil bratwursts, Polish sausages etc before you leave the house, refrigerate in a Ziploc, then use the grill to but a brown on them.

grill corn on the cob in the husk

Smaller pieces of meat take less time to cook through. Do shish-ka-bobs and the meat will get done on the inside without burn the outside. The same thing can be done with thinly cut chicken and fish fillets.

use a "vegetable basket" for grilling veggies and small items like shrimp and prawns.

They are so using you. I would start looking for another job. 430 a week to do all of that? Oh my. My mom pays me 115 a week to help pay for college, and all i have to do for that is vaccuum three times a week, take out the trash, and clean her bathroom once a week. That is light house work. What your doing is.. wow. how do you find time for yourself? They can't just add more work!!!
If you're full time, that means you work 40 hours a week right? no overtime? that figures to 10 dollars an hour. I assume the cost of living in Boston is higher than the cost of living where I live... Minimum wage here is 6.55 an hour. You'd think that the parents would want to pay the nanny more to pretty much be the primary caregiver for their children. If I were to hire a nanny (just a nanny, not a housekeeper too) I'd pay at least 100 dollars a day- at least! I mean at the minimum, that's 8 hours of watching young children. I know people that pay babysitters 40 dollars+ an hour. Think of that. Good luck!!

hello - are you paid legit or under the table? do you have healthcare through them? if they pay taxes etc on you then this seems like a reasonable wage, but it does depend on how many hours over 40 you are working. if its under the table you should get more as they are not contributing to social security etc and that will affect you for the rest of your life. but this is all speculative. if you are using your own car to transport them you should have gas and other costs covered for that as well. and if you have care of other kids you should be paid more for those hours. i suggest you write up or keep a copy of the daily to do lists and show them how they differ from what you agreed upon 6 months ago. good luck

I work for a human resources firm and although we do not staff nannies/housekeepers I can assure you for the amount of responsibility that is placed on your shoulders and the increasing amount of responsibilities you've gained over 6 months you are certainly worth more. Especially being that Boston is a busy area as opposed to if you worked in Macon, Georgia.

My best advice to you is to request an increase while utilizing the main point being the fact that you are doing much more than the initial job description entailed. I'm sure you are being taken advantage of because of your good nature which is apparent due to the fact that you care for children. Good Luck!
