What are alternatives to cook the chicken to make chicken tikka masala if one does not own a grill (indoor or outdoor)? The recipes that I have found online state "grilled or tandori chicken.

    My mother’s 80th birthday is next month. We are holding the party outside at my sister’s. It’s the first time she’s ever had a birthday party of more than 5 people. There will be a minimum of fifty (50) people. I am looking for a VERY special recipe (main course, hot) to serve that will not be too difficult to a) make ahead and b) serve outdoors. BBQ’s are out – sister does not have a grill. I was thinking of Jambalaya, but too many people disagreed with the idea because of a) seafood not a favorite & b) too spicy. Stuffed Cabbage (my mother is Polish) is already on the menu and so is kielbasa and chicken. I’m at my wits ends trying to come up with something really special. Any ideas (w/recipes) would be greatly appreciated as this Christian woman is VERY special to us all – she has always given of herself without ever asking for anything.

    Also, if you have any REALLY SPECIAL recipes for sides, deserts, etc., I’ll GRATEFULLY take those too, but I must come up with a main course.

      I’m planing on cooking a pork shoulder in my crock pot, but I’m having trouble picking a fluid to cook it in. Some people suggest no liquid, but I’m afraid it would be to dry.           Must we always use recipes?

          Ok, I follow recipes to a point but for most of my cooking I just do everything by taste and what looks right. My mother and grandmother taught me how to cook and bake in the kitchen and they never pulled out a book or notecard. My father was the same way outside camping and grilling.           Cooking while camping?

          I recently got into camping as an adult. My family wasn’t the outdoors type though I love it. We take a propane burner and a grill. I have trouble coming up with side dishes to make with meals. So far we have only done corn on the cob on the grill. While I do love it I need some variety. What are some techniques I can use to cook other stuff on the grill? Also what are some recipes people use? Also any websites people can recommend that I can look on would be great.

          We have very basic equipment. We bring frying pans and a tea kettle as well as utensils. We are slowly building up our equipment but so far we only have the basics.
